Real Madrid almost mirrored a Germany-Spain fashion battle as their Spain Compatriots Barcelona by registering a 4-1 loss to the German giants Dortmund in a classic Champion league heavy-weight clash.
Just like the Barcelona vs Bayern clash, this was perceived as a match that was going to be a neck to neck battle between the two teams but in the end Lewandowski, the BVB main man of the night stole the show from Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo by scoring all the four goals leaving Real Madrid to hang on one away goal as the hope for their progression to Wembley Stadium for the finale showdown.
Although it looks bleak for them to go on to beat their rivals who they have not beaten even once since the start of this season's champion league, there are strengths that they can hang on to push them over their now bitter rivals Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp the BVB boss knows this very well that even after the almost convincing match he had the following to say.
Jurgen Klopp during the game " We have played an extraordinary game against a fantastic team but nothing has been decided yet.
“But even if we get knocked out, nobody can take this night away from us.
The BVB boss struggled for superlatives when describing his team's
performance against Real Madrid - eventually settling for a folk hero
who robbed the rich and gave to the poor.
The game which was won by the star striker of the day Lewandowski was far from the Real Madrid defeat where they have not allowed a single player beat them more than twice in the same game. This and other factors make it easy not to rule out the fact that if Real Madrid improve in the areas when they play at Santiago Bernabeu to Dortmund they we should get ready for yet another unpredictable battle.
Defense errors:
While acknowledging Dortmund's superiority, the outspoken trainer was
clearly vexed at seeing BVB's attacking star hit four times against an
under-par defense. The Poland international lay the blame on the

defense that was beat by a single player more than twice to the net at Signal Iduna. The first goal that Lewandowski scored came as a cross from Mario Gotze and clearly the cross could have been cleared had the white shirts in the box moved in time to mark the mingling Lewandowski who slotted in with a beautiful touch to put his side in a commanding tone with just eight minutes on the play.
The second goal came in the second half from the same man Lewandowski as the young Defender Varane lost attention in the game and left the striker all alone inside the box and the headed ball from Reus found him as he slotted home amid off-side crys from the defenders. The third goal was not a classic defensive error as one could point out but the defenders took long to close in on Lewandowski who calmly slotted home to make his third of the night.Madrid were resigning themselves to chasing a
two-goal deficit in the Bernabeu, albeit with an away strike, when an
idiotic shove from Xabi Alonso on Reus led to a penalty.Mourinho had the following to say on Lewandowski. "We know everything about Lewandowski, absolutely everything, we
studied him from every detail possible and we lose him in three goals - i
don't talk about the penalty - where we know exactly what he does,"
Mourinho explained in the post-match press conference.
If the team works on this, then the second leg will be a different story.
Ronaldo can score two goals:
With 12 goals to his name in the competition so far,it will not be wrong to bet on the odds of the Portuguese international scoring two goals in the second leg of the competition.Should this
happen then Real Madrid are poised for a complete revenge suited for this
level of competition.

Strikers and midfield pattern change:
Luka Modric started in the midfield with Higuain starting ahead of Benzema in the striking.Although the force worked well in the final minutes of the game it will be good if Benzema started in the game ahead of Higuain to add pace to the game for Real Madrid to have the advantage of early goals.Modric failed to show the composure he normally has in both the three legs of the competition right now and he can drop for the Essien so that the muscle in the midfield can stop the free movement of Reus and Mario Gotze to distribute the balls to the wings for the waiting Lewandowski.
Di maria should start on the wing:
The game for sure lacked the pace in starting moments of the match.Real Madrid tried to distribute the ball in the central part of the field which was crowded in the night.Di maria should start in the second leg at Bernabeu to take the ball in the Dortmund box for chances to create goals in the early stages of the match.
Cristiano Ronaldo's wing was overused in the night amid all the marking from the Dortmund blocks.
The Merengue were left bruised after
a convincing defeat, but will still hope to turn round the fixture
thanks to Ronaldo's away goal. The second leg will be played in the
Santiago Bernabeu, on April 30.
